Valide Sultan is the name of the Queen Mother - the 2nd most important person in the Ottoman Empire after her son, the sultan (emperor).
The Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi, or Mansion of the Queen Mother, is located appropriately just outside the walls of Topkapi Palace in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. Grand (for its size), with a true Ottoman feeling to it: the hotel offers gilded furniture, rich curtains and mouldings, many mirrors, and Queen Motherly touches of decor in many of the rooms.
The Valide Sultan's location is excellent. At the quiet northern end of Kutllugun Sok, right across the street from the Four Season Hotel. Ayasofya (St.Sophia) and the gate to Topkapi Palace are both a 2-minute walk away.
The hotel's roof terrace has unobstructed views of the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara, St.Sophia and of the Topkapi Palace walls.

The location of Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi is absolutely ideal for sightseeing since all the major attractions of the ancient city are on your doorstep. The hotel overlooks the grounds of Topkapi Palace, the storied abode of the Ottoman Sultans, and the palace gate is a stone’s throw from the hotel entrance.
A leisurely 5 minutes walk and you come to St. Sophia, the great basilica built by the Emperor Justinian, and across the fronting plaza you behold the superb Blue Mosque.
The Grand Bazaar, that unsurpassed shopping paradise where one can spend many delightful hours and even whole days browsing, is just an easy 15 minute walk from the hotel.

All rooms are designated by the type of bed(s) with which it is furnished: i.e. Double Room or Twin Room. An exception is the special Princess Room, where the centrepiece four-poster bed evokes the long-forgotten era of crinolines and morning jackets. A stay here is a jaunt into the past, but with modern conveniences included.
All of the rooms are comfortable and spotless, and each is individually decorated with great care and finesse to reflect the refined graces of the 19th century, with hardwood parquet floors accented with lovely Turkish rugs and translucent curtains, as well as opaque drapes to keep out sunlight when you wish.
